Congresswoman Tlaib Submits Signatures to Appear on 2022 Ballot, Raises Nearly Half a Million Dollars This Quarter

LANSING, MI – Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s campaign submitted 2000 petition signatures – the maximum amount allowed – to appear on the August 2022 primary election ballot for U.S. Representative for the newly-drawn 12th Congressional District. After the campaign’s most robust grassroots signature collection program ever, Rep. Tlaib submitted her petitions before the deadline of April 19th. Rep. Tlaib is excited to have garnered signatures from every single community within the newly-drawn 12th Congressional District. The new 12th District contains nearly two-thirds of the residents of the current 13th District, which Rep. Tlaib currently represents.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to run for re-election to represent and serve the incredible residents of the newly-drawn 12th Congressional District,” said Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. “We have worked tirelessly since 2019 to deliver for everyday people in Congress and back at home. Our legislative work has appropriated billions for programs that serve our residents, our neighborhood service centers have returned more than $4 million in benefits directly to constituents, and we just delivered more than $15 million to community organizations to support economic development, housing, and so much more. I want to make sure the 12th District knows I’m ready to represent my new communities with the same effective and passionate advocacy I’ve brought to my first two terms serving the 13th.”

Rep. Tlaib’s campaign also announced another strong fundraising quarter to start 2022, raising $475,359 via grassroots small-dollar donations, with an average donation of $28. Overall this cycle Congresswoman Tlaib has raised a massive $2.4 million from small-dollar donors, with an average donation of less than $20, and without taking a single dollar of corporate PAC money. These resources will allow Congresswoman Tlaib to run the most aggressive direct voter contact campaign of any candidate.

A recent Target Insyght and Michigan Democratic Black Caucus poll of likely voters showed Rep. Tlaib with an overwhelming 62% of the total vote, including 72% of Black residents and 56% of white residents in the 12th District. Of candidates who have announced intentions to run, Rep. Tlaib’s closest competitors polled at 6% and 4% overall.

Congresswoman Tlaib mounts her re-election campaign with strong backing from labor and progressive organizations, earning endorsements from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Michigan, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 876, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Michigan, American Federation of Governmental Employees (AFGE) Local 704, UNITE HERE Local 24, Michigan Teamsters Joint Council #43, Blue America, Jewish Voice for Peace Action, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Democratic Socialists of America, National Women’s Political Caucus, League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, Working Families Party, Metro Detroit Democratic Socialists of America, Progressive Turnout Project, Peace Action, and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, among others.
